Carlo Curatolo, born in 1988 (Grottaglie, Italy), learned the basics of playing classical guitar from Pino Forresu, Francesco Taranto, and Stefano Palamidessi. After graduating with first-class honours from the Conservatory of Taranto in 2010, he obtained a master’s degree in Physics from the Sapienza University in Rome. He continued his musical studies at the Segovia Guitar Academy in Pordenone with Paolo Pegoraro and Adriano del Sal, and at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Oscar Ghiglia. In May 2020, he concluded with honors a postgraduate specialization course in advanced studies in music performance and interpretation at the Conservatory of Parma, held by Lorenzo Micheli, Stefano Grondona, and Giampaolo Bandini, among others. He also attended master classes by Carlo Domeniconi, Judicael Perroy, Jorge Cardoso, Leo Brouwer, and Carlo Marchione.
He has been awarded prizes at more than 30 international guitar competitions in Italy and abroad, for example in London (U.K.), Bratislava (Slovakia), Tallinn (Estonia), Gorizia, Parma, Camogli, Gargnano (Italy) and Enschede (Netherlands). Most recently (2019), he won first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Mottola, Italy, and at the Seville International Guitar Competition, Spain. He has been selected as a EuroStrings Artist of the prestigious EuroStrings - European Guitar Festival Collaborative for the year 2020.
Since 2006, he has been invited to perform in several cultural events, both as a soloist and in ensembles. He held soloist recitals in Italy, Austria, Portugal, Slovakia, Hungary, and Japan. He combines his performing career with his well-attended teaching profession in Rome.
