The new composition for the cciMB 2020 has been commissioned to Alex Nante (1992, Buenos Aires, Argentina), one of the most recognized young Argentinian composers. After graduating from the National University of Arts of Argentina, he continued his studies in composition at the Université Paris 8 and the Conservatoire de Reims. Currently, he is completing a Master’s degree at the Conservatoire de Paris and following the Mentoring Program of the Peter Eötvös Foundation.
Nante’s work has won many important distinctions and awards, such as the Médaille d’Or at the Les Inouïes competition of the Association Musique en Roue Libre (Arras), France, for his piece Quatre pièces pour flûte et piano (2015) and four first prizes in orchestral composition: Premio Nacional de música sinfónica y de cámara, Argentina (2018), and Île de Créations, France (2015), for La peregrination vers l’ovest; Guillermo Graetzer (SADAIC), Argentina (2015), for Tres Sueños Lúcidos; and Daegu Contemporary Music Orchestra, South Korea (2010), for Fulgor. Recently, he won second prize at the Basel Composition Competition 2019 for his orchestral work Helles Bild.
His compositions have been performed worldwide by, among others, the ensembles Accroche Note, Ensemble InterContemporain, Ensemble l’Itinéraire, Excelsis Percussion, Trio à Cordes de Paris, Ensemble of the Lucerne Festival Alumni, Ensemble SpazioMusica, Flame Ensemble, soloists of Ensemble Linea and the orchestras Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Sinfónica Nacional Argentina, Orchestre National d’Île de France, Sinfonieorchester Basel and Daegu Contemporary Music Orchestra.
In 2010, Alex founded the orchestra OANM (Orquesta amigos de la nueva música), which premiered many pieces by Argentinian composers, and in 2014 he co-founded the contemporary music ensemble Écoute, based at the Cité Universitaire of Paris. Since 2018, he is the conductor of the ensemble Awkas
