Georgi Dimitrov – Jojo (2000, Sofia) is one of the most prominent young Bulgarian guitarists. He began his classical guitar studies at the age of 10 at the National School of Music L. Pipkov, Sofia, with Stolina Dobreva and Tsvetan, graduating in 2018. Currently, Georgi is a BA second-year student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) in the class of Paolo Pegoraro.
Georgi is first prize winner of many classical guitar competitions, among which the 1st International Classical Guitar Competition GuitArt, Plovdiv, the 13. Anna Amalia Competition, Weimar; the XXI Goleminiv IGC, Kyustendil; the 9. International Competition for Classical Guitar Andres Segovia, Monheim am Rhein; the 1st and 2nd Pleven Guitar Festival, and the XII EMCY International competition Young virtuosos, Sofia.
Georgi gave his solo concert debut, performing the Carulli Guitar Concerto in A with the famous Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra conducted by Prof. Plamen Djuroff. He has performed with notable orchestras under many leading conductors such as Plamen Djuroff, Yordan Kamdzhalov, Bernhard Steiner, Svilen Simeonov, Georgi Patrikov, and Vesselin Baychev, as well as given recitals at numerous festivals and music events. As a EuroStrings artist 2018/2019, he was engaged in a concert tour and different cultural activities in some of the most important festivals throughout Europe, like Zagreb GF, Sarajevo IGF, Tampere GF, IGF Jose Tomas Villa de Petrer, IGF Guitar summit London, and GuitArt, Plovdiv.
In 2017 he became the first young musician honored with the Olga Kamburova Award at the Bulgarian annual ceremony Musician of the Year. Georgi Dimitrov-Jojo is a scholarship holder of the Yordan Kamdzhalov Foundation, founded by the notable Bulgarian conductor Yordan Kamdzhalov, and was honored to play under the Maestro’s baton during the 2018 Sofia Musical Weeks. Georgi was involved in the charitable causes of the Foundation by playing solo concerts in some of Bulgaria’s most famous cultural venues.
