Giacomo Susani is an Italian guitarist, born in Padova in 1995, in a family of important musical traditions.  He studied guitar with Stefano Grondona at the Conservatorio Arrigo Pedrollo, Vicenza, obtaining his diploma cum laude in 2013. He then moved to London, England, where he studied with  Michael Lewin at the Royal Academy of Music, earning a Bachelor of Music with first-class honours in 2016, a Master of Arts with distinction in 2018, and an Advanced Diploma in Guitar Performance in 2019. During his studies, he received several awards, such as the Bache Fund Prize, the Gershon Ellenbogen/Maccabaen award, and the August Mann Prize. He also studied composition, starting with Michele Brugnaro in Italy, and later with Stephen Goss in England and Dušan Bogdanović in Switzerland. He has attended masterclasses by internationally acclaimed artists such as Leo Brouwer, Paul Galbraith, Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, and Fabio Zanon, obtaining scholarships and diplomas of merit.  He received a 4-year scholarship from the Julian Bream Trust, giving him the privilege of working closely with Julian Bream in a series of one-to-one meetings. He received additional financial support from the Calleva Foundation, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust (Star Award), the Help Musicians UK (Ian Fleming Award), the Worshipful Company of Musicians (Yeoman program), the Park Lane Group,  and the City of Music Foundation.

He took part in several international guitar competitions, always achieving notable results, such as 1st prize at the London International Guitar Competition, UK (2016). He furthermore received the 19th Ivor Mairants Award, the David Russell Guitar Prize (London 2017), the audience award at the VI Concorso Internazionale di chitarra Ruggero Chiesa, Camogli, Italy (2012), 2nd prize at the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award, Lugano, Switzerland (2016), the ESTA prize for best performance of a contemporary piece at the XXI International Competition - Forum Guitar Wien, Austria (2016), the special prize for best performance of a newly commissioned piece at the Guitar Masters International Guitar Competition, Wrøclaw, Poland (2016), as well as additional awards at the XLII Concorso Chitarristico Internazionale di Gargnano, Italy (2017), the VII Changsha International Guitar Competition, China (2018), and the XXVII Koblenz International Guitar Competition, Germany (2019).

He conducts an intense performing activity as a soloist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestra, playing in prestigious venues in England and in Europe. The Polish composer Marek Pasieczny dedicated to him his composition for solo guitar Tate Sonata, which he premiered in London in March 2018. In 2016 he was selected by the International Guitar Foundation (IGF) – Young Artists Platform for a concert tour in the UK and in 2018 by EuroStrings – European Guitar Festival Collaborative which gave him the opportunity, as a “Young Star”, to perform and teach master classes in numerous guitar festivals around Europe. He is a D’Addario Artist since 2018.

He recorded two solo albums for the label Stradivarius: Giacomo Susani plays Petrassi, Bach, Tansman & Weiss (2015), and Gebeth. Romantic Music for Guitar - Mertz, Regondi (2018), which both received critical acclaim.  Giacomo has also written and published several compositions, including Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra for guitar and orchestra, The Blue Madeleine for solo guitar (dedicated to David Russell), Of Dark Tales for two guitars, Songs of Elegance and Wisdom for soprano and guitar, Quintet for guitar and strings. His compositions have been performed in Italy and abroad and have been positively reviewed by important national and international magazines.

Since 2016, he is Artistic Director of MoMùs-More Music, a musical association that promotes young classical music artists through concerts and educational events, and since 2018 he is responsible for the musical production of the Barco Teatro, in Padova. Since September 2019, he teaches guitar at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music in London. He furthermore holds masterclasses in important musical institutions in Italy and in Europe.

He plays on two instruments, one made by the Spanish maker Domingo Esteso (1926) and one by the English luthier David Rubio (1996).
