Marco Carta, born in 1992, started playing classical guitar at age eleven. At age fourteen, he began to study at the L. Canepa Conservatory in Sassari (Italy), from which he graduated summa cum laude in 2014. He subsequently attended several courses and masters, including two years at the Segovia Guitar Academy, under the guide of Paolo Pegoraro and Adriano Del Sal, earning scholarships for both years as best student of the year. Marco also attended masterclasses by Carlo Marchione, Marcin Dylla, Goran Krivokapic, Carles Trepat, Arturo Tallini, Walter Zanetti, Lorenzo Micheli, Oscar Ghiglia and Pavel Steidl.
Since 2006, Marco has been awarded prizes in several national and international guitar competitions, some of the most important being 2nd prize at the Festival Jose Tomas – Villa de Petrer (2014), 3rd prize at the Corrado Alba International Guitar Competition (2018), 1st prize at the Luigi Mozzani International Guitar Competition (2011), 1st prize at the Riviera Etrusca Guitar competition (2012 and 2017), and 1st absolute prize (cat. D) at the Concorso Nazionale G. Rospigliosi (2012).
Marco started his concert career in 2009 playing mainly in Italy, but also abroad, for example, in Prague, at the Italian Institute of Culture. His interest in contemporary music led him to perform three absolute first executions of contemporary music (by A. Manca and D. Pitis) and to compose his first piece for guitar, Petit Suite, based on a poem by M. Meloni.
He recorded a recital for Radio Vaticana, in 2014, with music by J. S. Bach, M. Giuliani, A. Uhl, and J. Manén. Marco has also been a teacher of classical guitar at the Doria Musical School in Valledoria, in 2014. In addition, he is co-founder of The Goya Project, based on the first-ever recorded meeting between some of the 24 Caprichos de Goya composed by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and the original series of drawings Los Caprichos by Francisco Goya.
